4TH ANNUAL COMMUNITY HEALTH FAIR
THE HEALTH & WELLNESS MINISTRY
The Health & Wellness Ministry played a key role in the initial Healthcare Marketplace Enrollment and was instrumental in having Shy Temple approved of being a Champion for Coverage through the Center for Medicaid & Medicare Services.
We continue to reach out by hosting annual community health fairs with a variety of local healthcare and social service vendors on site to provide all types of health related information and materials. Participants are also able to take average of free health screenings. Health screenings included: high blood pressure, cholesterol, and HIV testing.
The first Health Fair was held in 2013 and there over 200 participants and 18 vendors.

To motivate, enlighten and empower the community to seek knowledge regarding their medical care through education and prevention.
Our Vision:
To see health disparities eradicated within the African American community.
The Health & Wellness Ministry has an ongoing partnership with Emory’s Rollins Public School of Health and Georgia State University
The Health & Wellness Ministry is in the development of a Health & Wellness Resource Center, which will be filled with the lasts health information and will be open to the community.
The Health & Wellness Ministry was implemented at Shy Temple CME Church in January 2011
The Health & Wellness Ministry provides bimonthly high blood pressure checks by two trained and dedicated RNs; Dora Brooks (who is retired) and Dr. Debra Cody, who is a professor at Clayton State University.
The Health & Wellness Ministry is coordinated by Patricia Yates-Rand.
